1992 Dodge Dakota heat issue

That looks like the blower motor resister. Is that what you ordered? Can you describe what is happening with the blower motor?

The blower motor resister has been replaced, so has the blower motor. The auto shop I had my truck at said I needed a "Blower motor switch". It isn't the resistor for sure. I did change that myself (the part on the passenger side under the hood). I ordered this part off of JCWhittney.

Also when I turned on the blower motor it only had 1 speed. Its not the resistor that part is brand new. The the fuse also keeps blowing.

First, I'm sorry. I was thinking 2002 and not 1992. The resister is mounted on the firewall and looks nothing like what you have. I have to ask. The wiring harness that plugs into the resister is known to melt down (usually as a result of a bad blower motor drawing too much power). Are you sure nothing was bad there? Next, remove the resister from the firewall and make sure nothing is shorting against the firewall. Finally, you mentioned that only one speed was working. Was it the high setting only? As far as the part you got, I can't tell what it is too. I would return it to the parts store and ask them to confirm that they got you the correct part. If you wanted the blower motor speed control switch, they messed up.

Let me know. I have been through these systems for years. They are really straight forward. The most common problem is the resister, then the wiring harness plug as I mentioned. Recheck that and make sure nothing has melted through allowing it to short and blow the fuse.

Ok, I have figured out what I need. My question is where I find a "heater control switch". I cannot find one at any parts stores, as they are not the right one at EVERY part store, I also tried JCWhittney and no luck there. Please help.

I looked on line and can't find one. The part, blower motor switch, shouldn't be hard to find unless they discontinued them. Have you checked a salvage yard? Other than a dealer with old stock, you may not be able to get a new one. Also, one thing you must remember is to let them know if you have AC or not.

Let me know. I have a friend that owns a u-pull it salvage yard. Let me know if it has AC or not and I can check there for you, pull the part and send it to you.
