Transmission problem
1991 Toyota Camry 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 136k miles

Only after reaching operating temperature my 91 Camry 6 cyl. will knock when idling, but only when in gear. As soon as I put the car in park or neutral there is no sign of the knock. The knocking sound is apparently not coming from the engine, but rather from the tranmission. It will knock briefly just as I am accelerating then everything is smooth again. The engine and trans perform well in all other areas. Also, as the car is driven and gets warmer, the idle knock gets louder. Any ideas on cause/fix? thanks, Bob

I'm having this same exact problem. My transmission runs and shifts great. This knocking sound from the tranmission is the only trouble I'm having. It seems to happen more when I'm on an incline. And like the OP posted it goes away just as you start to move via acceleration.

Can someone please answer this ?

Give it a basic transmission service fluid and filter and see what happens

Didn't work time to bring in to a transmisssion shop and have it pressure tested to find out more what's going on-I appreciate your $2 your problem is not a simple fix requires further diagnostics and again am not with the vehicle. Request your refund
