91 acclaim wont run

have a 01 acclaim 2.2 or 2.5 4 cyl throttle body that has been sitting for a few yrs and it has always started every yr but this time it wont. i dont hear the fuel pump . i dont know if it has a fuel pump relay or what to check first. thanks

Hi fititmr. First try banging on the bottom of the gas tank while a helper cranks the engine. Next, measure the voltage on the coil positive wire. You should have full battery voltage for one second after turning on the ignition switch, then again during cranking.

yah i sqirted gas in TB and it started right up! fuel pump is not working since i cant hear it i guess! starts all the time when i DONT need it but when i do, NADA. mitchel on demand sucks no picture of tank or desription of fuel system?

found info on chiltons online. nice of chrysler to put pump at convenient spot at back end of tank. tapped on tank bottom but no result. tapped on pump assembly/housing and BINGO! hope it lasts! i dont think their design has pump touching tank bottom?

Dandy. It's common for GM pumps to quit while driving, but Chrysler pumps almost never do that. When the brushes in the motor get worn, they fail to start up, but once you get it going, they keep running. It could do that again tomorrow or it might not act up again for months.
