1991 Mazda 626 stick shift. Lost power to drive weels while doing 60 mph. Engine still runs fine.

No the car does not move more than an inch in any gear

Before it gave out completely the rpms were higher to manitain the same speed

other than something odd, rare,internal in the trans/differential, the symptoms indicate a worn out clutch disc. but usually that is noticed as the car movement engage point being high almost to top of pedal stop. and some rpm 'slippage' noticed under engagement/ acceleration. usually more apparent in the higher gears.

I was hoping it would be something simple like a fluid level but it sounds like I need to pull the transmission.

a loss of fluid causing air in hydraulic line would cause clutch pedal to go soft and you would not be able to change gears.

as a final test you could open bleeder on slave cylinder for a few seconds and re tighten and try car again?
