1991 Jaguar Xj6 the gas tank straps are not reaching

Make sure that the fuel tank is sitting hard up into the body well, the filler is not cocked and tilting the tank. Hold the tank in place with timber block and a floor jack, this will free up your hands to make sure the straps are free and you should be able to secure the tank.
