I have a '91 Ford Tempo that I recently replaced the oil pan on. It ran fine for a day or so then started knocking. It's a pretty steady knock. Checked the oil level and it was still full, no leaks. I put some Lucas oil additive in to see if that would help, no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Is it really a "Knock", usually low in the engine, or could it be "tapping", up high, like the rocker arms?

Check your oil pressure with a mechanical gauge

It Possible, you left something in the pan?

Use way too much silicone gasket?

Did you fight the pan off, maybe damage the pick-up?

Just throwin' stuff.....You never know!

I would be checking the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge as well, there may be come carbon deposits or sealant fouling the pressure relief valve, was there a lot of sludge in the pan?

mhpautos,

My CJ 5 Rear Output shaft housing, on my transfer case, which is lubricated by gear oil slinging into the hole.....Failed, due to a previous repair, before I got him.

The feller must have used the entire tube of silicone to install the covers.

It had been lying in the bottom for years. When I removed the transfer case to rebuild the tranny, then re-installed all. It must have broken loose, It plugged the 2 oil holes, into the housing. I not only destroyed the housing and shaft, but at 55 MPH, when it locked down, it torqued big-time and busted the case too!

Needless to say, but I was not happy.

I really STRESS the "EZ with the silicone" to everybody now!

I appreciate you, joining in and throwin' out additional info that I missed, that might very well fix this issue!

You are graciously welcomed to help me anytime!
