Car ahrd to start. Have to hold the gas pedal to the floor, then it might start, but barely runs and emits massive cloud of black smoke. Believe it or not I am new to Fuel injection. If it was a carb I would say the needle and seat or the floats themselves is causing the flooding, But fuel injection??

could be a bad coolant sensor.

could be a bad injector not seating leaking fuel into the motor.

could be egr as well.

a scan tool can monitor these sensors for operation

The problem is intermittent. It flooded last night. This morning It started but ran and emitted the black smoke,but cleared out. I drove the car to get gas. Stopped and restarted at the gas station. Got home and parked the car for a couple of hours. Started had the same smoke but would not clear and stalled. Did not re fire. Can't get to a scanner like at advance Auto. Is there a way of checking the EGR to see if that is the problem. Dave

sounds to me like its the map sensor, or the fuel pressure regulator
