1990 Subaru Loyale Wont start

Are you sure the valves didnt get bent when the belt broke?

No I didn't check them. How do I go about checking them without taking the engine apart?

I would start with a compression test.

the 1.8l engine in 1990 to 1996 there non-interference so there should have been no damage to valves or piston. can can check for damage by doing a compression test make sure all cylinder's are with in spec turbo models 117-145 psi none turbo 139-168.
Did u make sure the crank number1 piston is on compression stroke when u sent crank mark. You could have crank 180 dergress out

No i did not do the number one piston check at the time. I have a friend helping me who is usually mechanically inclined but I guess he had an off day. But I'll try that. Thanks

Also do both camshafts have to be in the same position?

Iam sorry I looked up the wrong model that is a non interface engine.I would still Check the compression though.you have the timing incorrect.Do you have spark?

yes. I did have a spark. i don't know if it matters but it was off of the #3 spark I believe.

cam left side timing marks. as long as cam as both cams are on mark all is good and crank in on mark with 1 pistion on comression stroke .
