My car has a loud rattling noise that sounds like metal banging . It doesn't matter whether the car is moving, the noise is still there. It's been doing this for two days, but today it started dying when it was idle . Any idea on what this could be? The car was very well taken care of by my great aunt,, who bought it brand new . I checked the oil and it seemed fine

Do the following:

Take a rubber mallet and tap on the exhaust system. If you hear the noise, locate where it is coming from. Something tells me that the inside of the catalytic converter has come loose and is making the noise and causing the engine to stall when stopped.
