Which belt runs the water pump? Timing belt or serpentime? My serpentime belt is loose and I have to keep recharging my battery at night to drive, is this damaging anything?

Other than killing the battery, it shouldn't hurt anything. Is the engine running hot? Also, I need to know what engine you have to answer your question about the water pump. I'm showing in 1990, the engine was a 1.8L. All 2.0L that I list show the timing belt running the water pump.
