my check engine light came on. A friend helped me get the codes and the code read 25 and 26.
I can smell exhaust fumes when I start the car.
My engine is approx 4 yrs old and it had 64k miles when I purchased it and I have a re-built transmission approx 3 yrs old.
Last year my car was up for a smog check. Prior to the smog check my car was in good running condition, No problems, no oil leaks and gas mileage was running at a normal cost. The smog check shop said I needed a new gas cap. I replaced the gas cap and received my certificate for a smog completion.
Since then I have been having check engine light problems. I've taken it in but the light goes off. I explained the smell and was told that's normal when the car is cold. I have never smelled the smell I'm smelling since owning my car. Therefore it is not a "normal smell". I don't have a Lexus manual but I was told that the Toyota Camry manual 1990 book is close to similar to my car. Can you Help me as to what the problem could be and what the references to the codes 25,26 are in the Lexus manual? Thank you for any assistance you could be of in helping me. Robyn.
