used car advice please!

I am about to buy a car from ebay motors and it says that it has thrown a rod through the pan and does not run. what would i need to do to get it fixed?it is a manual 2.3L 4 cylinder EFI

Give more details-if its me I won't buy it and get again depends on the damages

I'm with rasmataz. This is hardly a prize, and the bidding is way over what it's worth. By the time you rebuild the engine, (plan on at least $2000.00), or replace it with a used one, you're going to have way more in it than it's worth. At 180,000 miles there's going to be worn suspension parts. Ford has way more problems to start with than most other brands so factor that into the cost of ownership.

My personal opinion, if you're satisfied with a car that old, look for a rust free southern Dodge Shadow or Plymouth Sundance. Those are some really tough little cars and very easy and cheap to fix. I like the looks of the two-door models the best. I drive an '88 minivan because I know I won't have lots of computer and other electrical problems. If I could find a nice Shadow, I'd grab it and drive it only in the summer and not in Wisconsin road salt!
