I need to replace my brake light switch on a 1989 toyota p/u 5 speed. I cannot figure out how to access it, and don't want to remove entire dash. Any tips? & it is a brake light switch issue according to the test administered.

My manual shows where it is & tells how to replace it. The problem is, I can't reach where it is supposed to be. So, once again, Can someone help me access it without me having to remove my dashboard? By looking at the diagrams, it appears to be behind my tachometer.

You don't have to remove the dash to get to the brake switch-go underneath the dash to get to it-

Maybe mine is different than others, but is actually inside my dash. As I said I can't reach it by going under. It is basically above/ next to steering column.Once I could see it, I removed & installed new one using tools, since I can't reach it. Removed the bottom half of driver's side dash. Driving & working on this truck I have found that a lot is different than similar vehicles. You would not believe the hassle to get parts because most computer systems don't list that year as coming with fuel injection, I have to take the people to my truck & pop the hood to prove it, then get sent away because they can't help. I learned recently to carry my vin with me for look ups, works about 50% of time.
