car starts and runs in park and reverse, But totally shuts off and dies when placed into drive

Does it feel like a standard transmission with the clutch being released? In other words, does it jump forward and then die?

Are you sure this is a standard transmission, the last reply sounds like a manuel. If you have a manuel transmission please have someone check the linkage to the transmission. I would also think about having the transmission screen and fluid changed as well. Good luck. Cynthia
