1988 town car hesitates

1988 town car hesitates at a steady acceleration and misses and back fires at idle. I'm getting 51 and 31 codes with the key on engine off test and 12, 13, 21 and 74 codes in the run test. Ok the 12 and 13 may be connected to the 74 BOO switch codes but my brake lights all work. For the codes 21 and 51 the temperature (ECT) sensor has voltage and varies.

Would any of this cause the hesitation while driving?

I've replaced the spark plugs, wires, rotor & cap, coil, fuel filter, fuel pump, fuel regular, EGR, air by pass valve, timing chain and gear, hoses to the plenum and fixed a vacuum leak to the thermoactor solenoid and tested the injector with code reader twice they passed. But still she****** and misses. Help!

ect could be your issue if it is reading hot engine all the time.

as far as the injectors, they will not code in obd 1. you need to have a shop check them as they are a more common issue than anything else you have replaced.

Thanks Roy is there any way to test my ect to see if it is reading hot all of the time?

there are resistance values for cold and hot. i will try to find them and get back to you.

Just wondering, what is the cylinder balance test doing if it not checking the injectors? It sounds like it doing something with the injectors.
Is there anyway that I could check the injectors myself? Cause if I could afford to take this car into a shop to have the injectors checked I would of taken it in to have the timing chain and gears put on. That's one nightmare job I'd gladly pay to have done if I had the money!
