broken headlight dimmer switch

It can be done if you have the wiring diagrams.
I do not know if the information is available in our database and I need more niformation on the truck model to find out.

it is a 1988 Isuzu pickup it has a 2.3l engine,5 speed manual tranny,2wd,with a/c anything else? thanks so much for all your help, I'm not able to drive at night much cause I bright light everyone and I can not afford a ticket. So I'll be waiting to hear from you.

Can the taillights be turned on?
Can headlamps be turned on?
How would you like to wire the lighting switch?

yes headlights and taillights can be turned on and they work fine- I just can not dim the bright lights(as the dimmer switch won't click)
I would like to put one of those floor dimmer switches in because a new one for my steering column costs 195.00 and my funds are not good at this time(laid off almost a year now) if you can help us with this you it would be so good. Awaiting your response.

Under present conditions, when headlights are turned on, the RED/BLACK wire is being grounded to turn the HIGH beam on.

You would need a 2 way switch to operate the system. Ensure the floor dimmer has 2 way functions.

At the headlight switch wireharness, cut off the RED/BLACK ( high beam) and RED/Yellow wire ( low beam). The RED/Yellow wire FROM switch is not going to be used so you need to insulate it properly and tape it back to the harness.

Floor dimmer switch should have 3 terminals for Low, Common and High respectively.

The RED/BLACK wire coming from the headlight switch would be the common ground for both circuits.

For LOW beam terminal at FLOOR DIMMER switch, attach RED/YEWLLOW wire going to fuse box.

For HIGH beam terminal at FLOOR DIMMER switch, attach the RED/BLACK wire going to fuse box.

Ensure the floor dimmer is located at an appropriate position before securing it.

You are set to go. Test if system operates correctly.
