i removed my 3 wire alternator from my carbureted prelude and took my 3 wire alt plug off of the harness put in a 4 plug alt in and spliced the 4 wire plug to my 3 wire harness...wire colors on my harness are black/yellow...blue/white...and green/white...those wires match up so i spliced those to the plug, but there is extra red/white wire hangin...what do i do with it? what do the colors mean and what is their function? where should i splice the extra red/white wire to make my alternator work?

According to the schematics for both alternators they are not compatible, the extra wire goes to a integrated control unit that is not fitted to your earlier model.
