Follow question for Caradiodoc on 88 Daytona seat belt roller

As noted in my recent question the roller itself seems to be fine but there is something else preventing it from working properly. Could it be that plastic disc with the teeth on it? As you informed me before you were a Chrysler/Dodge mechanic for ten years, is there any way to obtain schematics/diagram of the seat belt roller showing the parts and its functions?

Parts aren't available for seat belt assemblies. For reliability of a safety system, they're only available as complete units.

If the belt retracts and winds up if you pull down on the side where it goes behind the trim panel, the webbing is sticking on the slide part of the top bracket. Coating the belt and the bracket liberally with Silicone Spray Lube will solve that for a year or two.

If the retractor assembly isn't pulling any pressure on the belt, it's almost certain something has fallen inside and has jammed the wheel or the spring-loaded latch. If you don't see any foreign object that can be removed, you have two choices. The best one is to find a good used assembly in a salvage yard. The second choice is to try to disassemble the housing to see what's causing the problem. That isn't something a mechanic would attempt so you're going to be the expert. There's a swinging pendulum in there that lifts a catch when it swings off-center in any direction. That stops the belt from pulling out during a crash. That's about all I can tell you.
