Why do i have to crank my motor more than twice to get my truck started?

I have to crank my truck more than twice to get it started. Sometimes I crank it the third time and it starts but then it quits. I just replaced my starter to try and fix the problem. But it is still persisting. What could i do to remedy the situation? I need to be able to start my truck quickly. Any help would be nice.
