I have replaced a coil pack because I found no spark. I still have no spark on the new coil terminal and sometimes when car gets hot it quits running until car cools down. I am thinking about replacing ICM, what do you think?

You replaced all three coils? Usually the coils are removable one at a time. If no spark from any of the coils. I'd want to check for rpm signal, engine cranking. The rpm signal comes from crank sensor. The crank sensor is usually cheaper than the ignition module.

Some of the national brand autostores may be able to check ignition module? I can't rule out the ignition module at the moment.

No, I replaced one coil pack and the same cylinder is still missing. The car does run, however when it gets hot it quits running until it cools again. Then it runs but its missing one cylinder.

One coil fires two plugs, so no spark on either of the two cylinders? If not, sounds like ignition module.

When testing, you could have switched the coil positions, if the problem follows the coil, then you know the coil itself has an issue.

No, I replaced one coil pack and the symptoms did not change, I still have one cylinder not firing. With that in mind and the fact that the car quits running when it gets hot and runs again after it cools down, I think the Ignition control module is ceasing to work when it gets hot. It sounds like you agree, yes? Also can you recommend where to buy and what brand to buy? Is Rockauto.com Reliable?

Yes, I agree with you about the ignition module. Napa usually has quality parts.

Just speaking for myself, I'm on a fixed income, I usually go downtown to one of discount auto stores and get the cheapest part I can find for my vehicle. Not always the best choice. Price wise, nothing wrong with rockauto. I can't speak to quality, I don't know.

Hello JDL, I have replaced the ICM on the 88 chevy celebrity 2.8. The car is not skipping anymore but it is still cutting off when it gets hot, any ideas?

When it stalls, can you tell if your losing spark or fuel? Any applicable trouble codes? Your obd 1, you should be able to che4ck codes, yourself.

When it stalls does it restart, immediately? If not, check for spark, engine cranking, if no spark check voltage and ground to ignition module.
