heat rfan not working

What is the blower motor resistor, where is it located and how is it installed? My dealer could not provide the part, I located a used part, have it in hand and was told it is installed by plugging in behind the glove box. What is the story? (For what my dealer wants' to install it, I can buy a new car!!

Thank you so much, razmataz, for your excellent reply. The diagrsm is very helpful, Can you tell me how it is hooked up or installed? Is it just plugged in or is some wiring necessary? Also can the glove box be removed by itself or does the dashboard have to be removed?
