1987 Toyota Cressida Accelerator pedal vibration

Check that the cable is located correctly and that it is not over tight, this should be a simple fix if the mechanic takes some time to check his work over.

Thank you so much for your reply. Yes the installation is correct and the accelerator is working correctly. The adjustment does not seem to be to tight and there is plenty of play at the final connection. The black rubber around the cable seems intact.

Could the problem be at the other end at the pedal? The pedal went to the floor course when the cable broke.

What else could it be? The vibration is quite intense and increase with speed.

You may have to check engine mounts and make sure that the cable is not laying against the engine manifold, as this may be transmitting the vibration. Try running the engine and have someone operate the throttle from the engine bay, and see if there is still vibration at the pedal with your foot just touching it.

Again.....Thank you so much for your input . Motor mounts seem fine as everything else is smooth and normal even when motor is strongly "torqued". Vibration seems to be still present when throttled is operated under the hood, although its a little harder to tell I do think the EXCESS vibration is there in the pedal, it was not anything like this before it was like riding on a cloud. No feeling in the pedal.

The problem will have to be with the cable itself, inner and outer vibrating if it is to sloppy or the cable laying on the engine transmitting vibration, can you feel any vibration by touching the cable and revving the engine under the bonnet.

There is no vibration at the connection metal to metal at the throttle as I feel to the insulated portion further down there is some feeling, a little hard to tell from this end and a lot of other sounds and feels going on, but this may be it??

Should I try another cable from another salvaged Cressida? Although not so easy to find.

Any thing specific to inspect on these cables that are not obvious on first inspection?

At this point it has to be a defect in the cable??? What could that be?

The inner and outer cable should have no slop, that is the inner cable should be firm but free to slide with no slop, if the outer case is worn internally as can be the case with second hand cables they can vibrate, you may be better of getting a new cable made, this is no overly expensive, look in the phone book for control system manufactures or ask your mechanic about this option.
