how do you remove the ignition cylinder?

Does the cylinder turn?

No its stuck in the lock position

I posted how to replace the igniton cylinder.

How stiff is that thing suppose to be? I just don't wanna wreck nothing.

The lock retainer pin

With the key in the run position it should just push in.

I thought he read the part in the directions about having to turn the key the run position to remove it.I know he couldnt turn especially after hammer a screwdriver in the cylinder.Your going to have to drill the cylinder to get it to turn.Drill out the top of key hole and bottom to remove all the tumblars.Dont break a bit in the cylinder or you will have to get the piece out and get another bit and keep drillin.

MINE'S GETTING A LITTLE WORN AND THE KEYS WILL JUST SNATCH OUT--THE CYLINDER WILL TURN W/O KEYS IN IT....UNLESS YOU DO SOME JIGGLING TO LOCK THE WHEEL

I HATE THE "DEGREES" OF UNCOMFORTABLE WRIST TURNAGE ANYWAY---SOON I WILL GET RID OF THE CYLINDER AND PLUG THE HOLE!

MY PLAN IS TO INSTALL 4 TOGGLE SWITCHES

1) HIDDEN MASTER ON/OFF...UNDER THE DASH

2) ON DASH--IGNITION W/ THE RED "FLIP SAFETY COVER" (ON/OFF)

3) ON DASH--ACCESSORIES--"FLIP SAFETY COVER" (ON/OFF)

4) ON DASH--"S" (CRANK--TO THE SOLENOID)---THIS WILL BE A MOMENTARY CONTACT TOGGLE W/ NO SAFETY COVER

Call me simple but i would rather just use a key to start my car lol.Why dont you just install a voice reconigition software ignition so you can have a real knight rider jeep lol.They have a finger print starter also for you.Would be nicer then battle star galactica style viper launch switch squence they used to launch there fighters off the armada ship lol.

I FORGOT TO MENTION....WHEN YOU PULL OUT THE OLD CYLINDER THE PART BEHIND IT, INSIDE THE COLUMN (WHICH MOVES WHEN THE CYLINDER TURNS) IS STILL IN THE "OFF OR LOCK" POSITION

THIS IS WHAT "CROOKS" TURN WITH A SCREWDRIVER TO CRANK THE CAR WHEN THEY "PUNCH" A CYLINDER

YOU NEED TO GENTLY (WITHOUT DAMAGE) TURN IT WITH A SCREWDRIVER UNTIL IT IS IN THE "ON" POSITION-----THIS WILL ALLOW THE NEW CYLINDER TO DROP RIGHT IN AND THE RETAINING PIN/TAB TO POP INTO IT'S HOLE

IT MAY TAKE A LITTLE "TWEAKING" TO GET IT TO FALL IN AND BE FLUSH AS BEFORE----DO NOT FORCE OR BEAT ON IT!

okay so i did the drilling and it still isn't turning, looks like im gonna have to do this the hard way, can anybody provide a step by step possibly so i can get this done, i need the truck fixed so i can move into my new house ha. I watched a how-to video that explained everything from taking the horn off and the steering wheel and getting all the way to the ignition cylinder but this guy had a key and his just wouldnt turn forward so he drilled out the pin and it turned and came out.

Have you tried drilling out the retaining pin your supposed to push in to releqse the cylinder?

no i haven't, i suppose that could be done without tearing it all apart but wont i still have to turn it to remove it?

Turning it allows you push the pin if you were able to turn it the pin would push and there would be nothing to take apart to remove the cylinder.
