jump the upper 2 terminals in the aldl connector. it will put it in base timing.

i try that but when i was setting it the rpm started t raise up as if the iac was opening and then it started to over heat i just got done doing the head gaskets on it. could it be i have the valve lash wrong i was told a long time ago when the valve is in the closed position you turn the nut and the push rod until it just about stops turning and the a 1/4 turn after that it also acts like it is miss firing too

as the timing goes advanced, the idle will raise up. it has no bearing on the overheat. that could be the thermostat. low coolant or something else.
did you have heads checked for cracks??? common for cracking.
your valve settings is exactly the way i set all of mine, good job

there is a adjustment for the throttle on the tbi unit. it has a cap that you remove and use a 25 torx, i believe as it has been a while since i did one, and you can lower the idle about 150-200 rpm

get a thermostat in there asap. it is required to have one and needs one or you will do damage to the back of the motor.
good reason the head gaskets blowing for that alone

going to be difficult to diag this without a scan tool. you need to monitor readings
