hesitates and backfires when accelerating

87 Cadillac Deville with 80K hesitates and backfires when accelerating from any speed. egr replaced and throttle position connector repaired is response to fault codes. problem persists. where do i go from here?

Can accelerate okay with light pedal but car balks and sometimes backfires with heavy pedal.

May be coil or plugs breaking down under load, do you have any codes up? remember that not all codes set a MIL.

As he mentioned, the check engine light should be on. There are many things that can cause this type of problem. What to do is have the computer scanned at a parts store. Most will do it for free. If the check engine light is on, there will be trouble codes to identify where the problem is coming from. Even if it isn't on, there could be old codes that are stored.

Have that done and write down the trouble codes they find. That way, we can better help you repair the problem.

push off and warmer buttons on the a/c panel.when you see all segments light release.then read the codes on the fuel center.you may have to have the engine scoped to find a problem with this cylinder or that.

Had trouble codes fro egr valve and throttlr position sensor. Replaced egr and repaired tps cable but problerm remains. No new fault codes with continued problem.

hope you cleaned the carbon out of the intake when you replaced the egr.it needs to go on the scope and theyll load test it and can tell you whats faulty.
