Older GM Passkey system

First thing i need to know is what year and model saturn you really have.You listed a 1986 saturn they didn't make the first saturn model year until 1991.They didn't use pass lock sensor's in the S model saturn's until 2000.Let me know so i can help you out.

I have already confirmed that it in fact does have the GM registered passkey system. I even have several different (cheap) dealer estimates. In '97 the system had changed in that it has a "security" light on the dash when it decides to *********. Or a thief with a filed down key.
I think you are referring to the Chipped keys in the later models. This '86 has a system of reading resistance in the key itself, and can be reprogrammed by the right equipment. (Tech 2)

Even if you have a 1997 saturn there is no pass lock system on that car.I have worked for saturn for over 16yrs and i know my saturn's in 1996 they added the rke module that performed key less entry function with a starter disable no pass lock.In 2000 they added the pass lock and the body control module that operated the pass lock on the S model.The L model came out in 2000 and had a pass lock also.If you tell me which year and model saturn you have and what the problem is i can help you out.Like what it's doing?

My 1996 SW-2 will not start, however, the fuel pump comes up to pressure and all accessories are working; dash lights, distribution box has voltage as well as the fuse block inside the car. When I read "starter disable, it gave me a chill, I just came in from checking the new starter's connections, alot of saturns seem to burn through the pos. wire. Anyway, it appears to be happy. I put an ig. switch and ig. cylinder in. What would I do to reset the disabled starter. I do have the power locks disabled due to the humming I was getting from their respective relays. No remote to jumper and reprogram. Lock and unlock several times? And thanks for your time, I am lost @ this point>

So with your door lock's all hooked up do they stay running all the time?If you have a 1996 then you have a rke module that control's the starter disable.Let's start by checking if it could be the starter disable do you have a multimeter or a test light to do some checking?Also have you had the battery tested and made sure the battery cable's are clean and tight.

I do have a fluke-77 multimeter. Yeah,the locks are unpredictable, and make a humm when one or more locks won't completely engage. I just got the car, but I had the same motor in my favorite ever car; '95 SL-2. New batt.700CCA maybe a little low from trying the stupid relearn process for my key. All to no avail. all voltage is being regulated. fuel pump works, all that happens when I turn the key from ACC to Start, is some clicking inside the interior fuse panel, all seems to be normal but the pretty new starter(getting voltage)wont react. .I hope to resolve the issue by Mon. All fuses good, none missing. Relays appear to be sending voltage to their respective destinations. ???????

There is no relearn for the key no pass lock or chip in the key on that car.Make sure your lock's,body,and chime fuse aren't blown in the inside fuse box.After that Make sure all lock's fuse's relay's are in with the lock's going crazy unplug the driver's side lock switch on the door see if the power lock's calm down and work.If they don't also unplug the passenger door lock switch see if the lock's calm down.Most common reason for the lock's to go crazy are the door switches being bad keeping the lock's running all the time.Most of the time it's the drivers door switch.Do you have a key fob we can program?No for testing to see if your rke module is keeping your starter from getting power i posted a diagram of where neutral safety switch on the transmission is.There are two heavy gauge wire's that are red on it.When the key is turned to the start position those two wire's should have battery voltage.Let me know what you find.

Here's the latest: EVERYTHING has not only power, but according to CarPro's.com, the proper voltage. and for kicks, i even checked the amperage to the dist. center, and the indoor fuse block.all good. Something has disabled the starter, and I need this car. I bought it last mo. so I could give my son his first car this x-mas.(old Nissan Sentra). I have checked the Neutral Safety Switch.
I guess that's why I'm here kickin' it with you. I have been an elect. mech. for 15 years, and I don't want to start bypassing stuff. I just want this beautiful little wagon to start.

If your getting battery voltage to both those red wire's on the neutral safety switch when the key is in the start position then your starter disable is not stopping the starter from operating.Now you need to go to the starter and check the purple wire it should have battery voltage when the switch is in the start position.Then make sure the positive cable to the starter is clean and tight.If all that check's out bad starter.
