SYMPTOMS:
• After standing without use for a week or so, it is very reluctant to start.
• If it does start, it stops instantly at the slightest use of the accelerator.
• If automatic is engaged while idling, it instantly stops.
• Left idling, it will idle for some time, then suddenly run roughly, and stop.
• As engine warms up, the revs can be very gradually increased, but even at say 3000 rpm, any sudden depression of accelerator will cause a momentary misfiring before it picks up.
• The problem lessens as time goes on (as engine warms up?), until finally disappearing, and revving becomes freely responsive to throttle.
• Often when travelling at 3500 rpm (100kph) it will suddenly lose power for a second or two, then pick up again.
