automatic transmission; transmission is in neutral and idling, gears grinding sound when shifting transfer case from 2H to 4H or to 4L, it does go into gear, but with grinding noise.

Get this to a transmission specialist, the longer you hear the grinding noise the more damage you are doing, not just to the gear set that is affected but the metal fragments being deposited around the transmission.
