1985 GMC Truck Flex plate

I just replace le the motor on my 85 half ton and after about 1k miles the starter started grinding with the flex plate so I repaced that and replaced the starter and it is still grinding and I ave no idea why. I've tried shimming it also it still grinds

Are you sure the flywheel isn't damaged?

It's a brand new flywheel I had it replaced when I replaced the transmission

What year is the new engine and was it also out of a truck? Are you getting a starter for that year engine? (I wouldn't think it would make a difference, but it could). Also, even though the flywheel is new, I would still check to make sure it wasn't damaged.

The motor is out of a 75 the truck is 85 and the starter and flywheel is 75

The only think left that I can think of is to make sure the solenoid is getting a full 12V of power. If the flywheel is good, the starter is the correct one for the engine, and shims didn't help, maybe it isn't getting enough power for the bendix to extend.
