I have a 1985 Chevy c10 pickup with a 4.3 v6. Before I changed the spark plugs it ran fine, now that they are changed. My truck wil start, spit from the carburator, and backfire but, won't run. I've bought a distributor cap, coil, and modual bug for the distributor and still won't run. I have the firing order as 1-6-5-4-3-2 and I'm lost on what to do next on how to fix it.

Hello,

Ok, not sure what your are referring to when you said about the "modual bug", but have you double checked your firing order. Attached is the diagram...

If all appears in right order would you describe in detail what you done so I can get better idea of what the probable problem is.

First,I changed the spark plugs 1 at a time so I didn't get any mixed up. After that it went out of wack. It started sounding like it would bog down when I put into gear. So I turned the distributor a little bit, and went on. After that, I went to start my truck and it won't start. Took it to my cousin,he told me to get a new cap, coil, and modual bug( white thing that spins under distributor cap) we replaced them and wasn't getting spark. So looked around and seen a wire disconnected , fixed it, got spark. And tried to start it, it will turn over but not run, it spits from the carburetor and backfires.

THIS LINK MAY GIVE YOU A GOOD STARTING POINT

https://www.2carpros.com/questions/chevrolet-s10-2000-26569

YOU WILL ALSO NEED A TIMING LIGHT TO SET YOUR TIMING...."BY EAR" JUST DON'T CUT IT.....MOST LIKELY YOU DID NOT MAKE A REFERENCE MARK ON THE POSITION OF IT BEFORE YOU SNATCHED IT OUT

SOMETIMES YOU CAN GET A LIGHT AND DWELL/ TACH METER CHEAP AT A PAWN SHOP

I'M NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOUR CAR....YOU MIGHT ASK Obxautomedic IF THERE IS A SPOUT CONNECTOR OR ANYTHING ELSE YOU MUST TAKE LOOSE DURING THE TIMING PROCEDURE

Thanks CJ...

The only things to disconnect from the distributor is the Vacuum line from Vacuum Advance and the Electrical Connection.

Ok, now if I am not mistaken the Vacuum Advance when you reinstall should be pointing toward the front passenger fender almost toward the Headlight. But first you will need to get the #1 cylinder to TDC (Top Dead Center) on Compression Stroke, before removing the Cap Mark on the Distributor Housing were the #1 Plug Tower is for reference, then remove Cap. While installing the Distributor Making sure the Vacuum Advance is pointing as stated earlier and the Rotor Button is pointing at the mark you made for the #1 Plug Tower. It may take a few times lifting it up just enough to be able to turn the rotor button freely. Once you get it were you believe it is correct replace hold down and tighten then replace cap and all connections try starting. I starts you will just need to set timing as I posted earlier. If doesn't start then it is possible you are 180 degrees off, meaning that you weren't at TDC on the Compression Stroke.

So hopefully between what CJ Medevac and I have posted you will be successful at getting it straight.

Thank ya'll for all the help. I put it at top dead center but did notmarkthe position. Tried 180° one way, then the other. I found out today it could be either the timing jumped or broke a tooth, or the motor coil? Or something like that.
