The other day my alternator/fan belt snapped and I began to replace it. The problem was I could not figure out how to loosen the tension on my air compressor belt. I ended up just cutting the belt so I could replace the alternator/fan belt. I am a small girl and driving without power steering is difficult for me. I need to know how I can adjust my air compressor so that I can replace the belt. Can you please tell me if I need a special tool and where the bolt I need may be hidden? Thank you.

Did you ever figure this out? If so, how?

others have had a similar confusion. i did some research and it appears that the crank pulley is shimmed to apply the right tension to the belt. taking the pulley apart/off releases the belt.
