battery continues to run until dead

My 1984 Volkswagen cabriolet is having issues. when i turn it off, the battery continues to run, until dead it at the terminal. i have changed the ignition because i thought it had something to do with that.

its been doing this for the longest time. is there any hope for it.

i owned a couple of those vintage cars way back. battery dies is what your saying when left overnight?
