Starter wiring

My car I recently purchased from this guy came with a hot wire from starter to the battery and it has a small spot stripped. it has one running from that wire to the ignition to a push button start well a homemade push button. it is ran to a trunk release to start the car I have to turn the key to the on position then push the button. can it be wired to strictly push button or will I need to get a new switch?

I am having issues with the timing, it keeps getting offset I can drive it when I have it set but it is like the distributor moves and shuts off the car. then when I try to start it back it will not start at all. it pours white smoke from the valve on the valve cover until it cools down.

Is there a reason why it is not wired to the factory ignition switch instead of the current "system"? Personally I would rewire it back to the factory system, simply to make it more secure and keep from accidentally damaging the starter. The factory switch is about $15.00 and is real easy to install.

Timing - Does the distributor housing actually need to be moved to a different position to get it to start/run? If so you need to pull the distributor and check the drive gear to see if the pin sheared or the gear is failing.

Smoke sounds like you have excessive blow by and possibly a gasket failing. Does the oil look clean or is it like a milkshake?
