Vehicle listed above has a Corvette engine. Not seeing a bad hole i bounce the tar out of the vehicle. This resulted in broke motor mount. Fixed. when i left shop in 4wheel drive came to ridge and discovered rear differential was not working.. Backed up in 2wd pulled forward couple times though it sounded like sandpaper rubbing but it engaged. Got to bad sand creek crossing (very ruff ranch) and discovered rear differential was not helping. This busted driver side front locking hub..
When you put in 2wd the drive line moves freely in first or reverse. But you hear sandpaper scraping sound. Could i have gotten the linkage out of adjustment when i lifted motor on one side or was it lucky day and everything broke at once?
I have read responses on others so i understand checking axles. Thanks

Good afternoon,

I would suspect possible ring and pinion damage. Remove the rear cover on the rear differential and inspect the gears for anything broken.

If you can, post some pictures for me to see as well.

Okay, finally got back to my cj5 Jeep with corvette engine. The passenger side wheel turned but not the axle. I tightened the axle nut drove 20 feet. And it stopped. I tightened maybe 1/16th turn more and it was a full grab.
It is not differential as worried.
So how tight must this axle nut be or tightening it more will pull axle splines out of ring gear splines?

The torque is 180 pounds on the nut.

Okay, first, they are not tight enough but it sounds like the splines are stripped.

I attached 2 pictures. Can you verify you have the full floating differential?
