I purchased my 79 CJ7 about a year and a half ago. PO did a lot of upgrades. One thing now that is troublesome...and was even to some extent when I bought it is the WagnerNW dual battery manager.
It seems to take forever for the "red" emergency LED to light and engage the Solenoid. I am replacing the batteries today since the old ones are over 6 years old. Not sure if anyone has this issue or similar but any help would be appreciated. Once she engages, she purrs like a kitten

with the batteries as old as they are that could be a problem. Batteries normally have a life of 4 yrs after that it's all luck I think what you are talking about is the thing that charges both batteries when you are running. those can go bad as well but batteries play an important part in it as well. One other thing is to get your charging system checked, but once again batteries will effect that as well. Make sure your alternator belt is in good shape and has the proper tension on it best done with a belt tension gauge you might also check what your output is of your alternator as that may not be enough as well taking a long time to engage the battery manager. It should be stamped on the housing of the alternator.
