1979 Ford F-100 Brake light switch

I can't find a pic to show you either from rock auto etc. but it should mount to the pin on the pedal with a spring clip holding it in place. best thing here is get a parts book from lmc truck and they should have a diagram of how to mount it. there may be a spacer missing as well. the books are free

In the past i have posted my pics, so i have them on hand in my many "fix pics"

The body is threaded, but made of plastic

The anchor is a hole- it sorta reminds me of the holes in a metal light switch box where the wires enter in. It can be found directly behind the "brake pedal tab" (which will touch the brake switch plunger)

The switch is "normally depressed" when the pedal is not being used

It "extends", when the pedal is pressed, when extended, the brake lights are on

This switch is adjustable fore or aft by moving the two nuts up or down on the body

You want to set it so the plunger is "in" but not being forced (plunger and body) rearward by the brake pedal tab

Adjusted too far forward-constant force, as the brake pedal tab "slams" the assembly will eventually make the two nuts strip out the plastic threads. The whole switch will push rear ward in the anchoring hole

-this will result in the brake lights staying on constantly, as now the plunger will remain "extended"

If you are real careful, snag that 12 inch x 12 inch mirror out of the hall way (i found a bigger mirror is better than a small inspection mirror). It and a good light will allow you to work on this without being a contortionist (everything will be reversed!)

Break the mirror-the wifey will kill you!

Thanks for the help and the pics on the cj 7 yes it does look tight under there. The bracket that is holding the brake light switch how is that connected to the brake pedal?

the tab is probably welded onto pedal bracket

ON MY CJ, THE SWITCH IS HELD "STILL" IN THE BRACKET WHICH IS PART OF THE STRUCTURE THAT THE BRAKE AND CLUTCH PEDAL PIVOT OFF OF

THE BRAKE PEDAL TAB MOVES AGAINST THE SWITCH, THE SWITCH DOES NOT MOVE AT ALL
