I have a 1978 Chevy K-10. The truck has been basically built from the frame up. I had to have the tranny rebuilt and I drove it tonight for the first time since the rebuild. The motor is a crate 305. As I was driving it the lights (headlights/dash) got dim and the engine started to sputter some. Seemed a bit sluggish to me as well. The lights would go from dim to bright, dim to bright. The sputter wasnt horrible but I noticed it. My question is: is this an alternator problem or more like a voltage regulator or bad ground etc? Thanks.

ALTHOUGH YOU WOULD NOT BE GETTING "FULL VOLTAGE"

SNATCH THE WIRES OFF OF THE ALTERNATOR (PROTECT THEM WITH TAPE)

DRIVE IT A SHORT DISTANCE WITH THE BATTERY ONLY

SAME RESULTS?

BETTER?

THE "ON/ OFF" DIMMING SOUNDS LIKE IT COULD POSSIBLY ALTERNATOR OR RELATED----OR A CIRCUIT BREAKER CUTTING OFF AND ON

MAYBE THE "NO ALTERNATOR THING" MIGHT NARROW IT DOWN---OR SHOVE US IN A CERTAIN DIRECTION

YOUR TURN
