i was driving in traffic on the freeway and when i exited the car started smoking black smoke and running so rough i had to keep the idle up so it wouldnt stall. i havent done anything to it since then but about a month ago i replaced the qaud carb with a rebuilt , same as was on there. also replaced the starter and flywheel, tires and battery. i could really use some answers. thank you

I feel hat this will be a carby problem, may be the needle and seat is stuck open and causing it to be well over rich, start here.

OK Thank you very much. There was a problem when the carb was first installed, it was the auto choke . Just cuz its new or rebuilt doesn't guarantee its good, thats for sure. I was also thinking maybe the catalytic converter?

Doubt that it is the cat, more like over rich due to a problem in the carby, also make sure that the fuel pressure is not to high.
