Does the engine remain running with foot on gas pedal?

Have you checked the auto choke and idle adjustment?

You have a fault with the idle control and this being a very old vehicle, our database does not have any information on it so I am not able to provide any diagrams.

The idle controls are at the carburettors and if the problem started suddenly, you could have a fault with the fuel cut solenoid on the carburettor.

If vehicle had been left idle for extended periods, the carburrettor could have clogged up internally and you would need to have it serviced.

Check the idle adjustment screw as well.

For fuel injected models, get the throttle body and IAC cleaned and retest.

Check the MAF as well.

Remove the air intake hose. Look into the throttle barrel, if it is dirty, get a can of carb cleaner and a used toothbrush. Spray carb cleaner into the barrel and allow to soak for a about 10 seconds. Use the toothbrush to brush the interior clean and keep spraying if necessary. You would need to flip the throttle plate fully open while doing this and after the work, the ening emight take a much longer time to crank.

As to the IAAC, you would need to remove it to clean the internal passages with carb cleaner.

Information for this vehicle is not found in our database so I am not able to provide diagrams. If you are not sure, snap a few pictures of the intake manifold from a few angles and I will see if I can point out the components to you.
