tailgate (electric) & can't put back together

I removed all the internals from my wagons tailgate (electric) & can't put back in & together- mainly the regulator I don't know which position the regulator has to be in when you attach the electric motor. There are distinct marks on both regulator mechanisms ( two lines on the left and one only on the right). The motor works fine, be gear teeth are all fine and mesh together from the side of the regulator which has the spring.
