1969 Chevrolet Camaro Steering pump

I purchased a 69 Camaro with a Edelbrock 350 engine and I'm wanting to change the power steering pump. I'm trying to figure out how to find the right pump. The previous owner has purchased other parts from Summit Racing which I have looked on their web site but none of the pumps look as big as the one I have removed even though I put in the necessary info to look up the part. There are no markings on the pump which appears to have been painted. Hate to ask this but does size matter? Attached is a picture of the pump I removed which I believe was leaking and and the car had the annoying screeching noise when turning mainly from a stop, when cold, or reversing and turning. Thoughts?

Size doesn't matter as long as it is the correct one and bolts to the mounting brackets. You should be able to get this pump from any parts store. As far as the noise it made, I assume the belt wasn't the issue.

Good question. The noise usually is from the belt isn't it? I did find it had some slack which I tried to tighten it and it help much. When I drained the pump the oil was pretty dark and that was after previously suctioning out most of the old oil and adding new. To be honest I'm not even sure if the pump I have is bad but it did appear to be dripping oil possibly from a bad seal? It's been years since I've tooled on cars so I'm a little green here. Rather than getting a new pump, try cleaning the old fluid out. It will take a few times suctioning and replacing fluid because it has to clean out the steering gear. When it is staying clean, try using a sealer for PS pumps. If it was a minor leak, it should fix it unless it was a hose leaking. Also, make sure the belt is in good condition and properly tightened.

Wanted to let you know that since I had the pump removed and drained I replaced the three belts and installed the pump back on added some fluid sealer, changed the oil and took it for a drive which the steering felt much better. The most obvious difference was when I would back the car into my garage is when it would make the most noise and it didn't make a sound. Thanks very much for the help. That was very cool of you and something I do as well when it comes to helping people with their houses. ????

I'm glad to help. Even happier that all is good now. I love those old cars. I miss my old 68 Superbee 440 / 4sped. I had a lot of Mustanges, Mopars... over the years, but I never owned a Camaro. Take good care of it, Even they are getting harder to find.
