speedometer housing

i have a speedometer houseing i took out of a 1968 dodge d100 truck, so i could remove a peice of broken speedometer cable, now as I am ready to put it back in I notice numbers stamped around it, so I guess this is for the rear end and tires, but its all greek to me can someone help?

Do you mean the housing that holds the plastic drive gear? Those numbers correspond to the number of teeth on the gear. More teeth means a larger diameter gear which must be spaced further from the tail shaft. The shaft of the gear is offset in the housing so it can be turned to accommodate the different gear diameters. You only have three choices of orientation. If you space it too close, it won't go in all the way. If you space it too far, it won't turn.
