wont stop cranking

i have a 66 ford fairlane 500 ..when you turn the key it cranks but wont stop cranking i changed the solenoid and still does it but if i tap the solenoid it stops not sure what else to try?

not sure what to check next..i have eletronic ignotion..and i have changed the ignition switch

Hi:
I don't have access to any wiring schematics for this year. However, it sounds like something is not wired correctly. Double check wiring at starter and alternator. Could be there is no diode in the alternator circuit which will back feed the starter system,

Or the battery is low and needs to be replaced.
