Have a 1966 Corvair w/ Powerglide transmission which leaks ATF into the bell housing. Replaced bushing and seal 3 times and torque converter once, still leaks aprox. 1 pint/200 miles. Shaft smooth and appears OK. (Very little play between shaft and converter bushing) Leak 'wets' transfer case houseing (in the bell houseing) from aprox. seal location downward; but doesn't 'wet' the houseing upward nor to the sides. Any ideas?
Thanks! Bob Bujeaud [email protected]

Since it appears to be a "drip" & not a spinning leak (coming from torque converter & or seal), I would guess that your leak is a gasket. The area that the shaft comes out of.....is the tranny pump....either the bolts are loose, or the gasket is shot.

along with what ford man said, there is an oring around the pump that can leak as well as small gaskets around the bolts holding the pump in. These minor leaks ahve been associated with missing gaskets on the bolts and will leka occasionally when the trans gets hot.
