Hi,the problem I'm having is on a 1960 Studebaker 5E5 2wd half ton pickup with a strait 6 motor.
I installed a new master cylinder. I did the bench bleed first then i blead all the wheels. I have great fluid at all 4 wheel cylinders and I can hold pressure on the brake pedal and it will maintain pressure but after releasing the pedal and waiting about 5 seconds the brakes will lose pressure and go strait to the floor...Any advice would be greatly appreciated... Thank you!

That is the exact symptom of drum brakes being out of adjustment. The shoes retract relatively slowly, so if you press the brake pedal again before they fully retract, they'll work their way out further with each pedal application. Once you give them a few seconds to retract, you need more brake fluid to get them to contact the drums and allow pressure to build than what you can get from one pump of the master cylinder. This is aggravated even more if you have a single master cylinder that feeds all four wheels, and all four are drum brakes.

I'D ADJUST THE BRAKES SO THAT THE DRUM WILL SORTA BARELY SLIDE ON OVER THE SHOES (WITH EASE, NOT BEATING THEM ON!) AND ALSO WILL STILL TURN WITHOUT BINDING UP. NORMALLY IN THE END OF ALL OF YOUR ADJUSTING, YOU WOULD WANT FREE TURNING WHEELS WITH THE "HINT" OF THE SHOES BARELY SCUFFING THE DRUMS.AS THE WHEEL TURNS. YOU CAN ALWAYS GO BACK AND FINE TUNE 'EM WITH A BRAKE SPOON TO GET THERE.

IF THAT DOESN'T SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM

RETURN HERE AND EXPLAIN EXACTLY HOW YOU BLED THE BRAKES, SEEMS THERE ARE A FEW WAYS THAT WORK WELL, THEN THERE'S THE NOVICE KINDA WAY WHEREAS THEY WERE TOLD INCORRECTLY, OR THEIR UNDERSTANDING JUST DIDN'T CLICK IN! WE'LL GET IT RIGHT.

PICS MAY BE TOO BIG

MINE ARE LIKE 930 kb SOME A LITTLE BIGGER AND 700x525, I'M NOT SUPER CYBER-EFFICIENT, MOST OF MY PICS ARE FROM A KODAK EZ-SHARE CAMERA, MY CANON REBEL PICS ARE WAY BIG AND I RE-SIZE THEM IN "MY PICTURES" SO THEY WILL FLY (I MIGHT CAN DO IT ON THE CAMERA BUT DON'T KNOW HOW!
