Please run the codes first to see what's coming up, this guide can help. The transmission is controlled by the PCM which I have included a transmission wiring diagram so you can see how the system works.

This guide can help as well:

Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.

Thanks for the quick response. generic code p0700 is what I get and that's it so far. Vehicle has been setting for over a year with a crank no start issue. I Started messing with it again and finally got it started. It ran like crap and even lurched quite a few times. That's when I think the transmission went into limp mode and it runs fine except for the limp mode. I have reset TCM so many times I lost count I clear 0700 code no check engine light until I drive off and 0700 comes on. I plan on changing the filter and some fluid and see what happens.

Hi,

You are correct in saying a P0700 is a generic code for the transmission. This code is set by the TCM when a transmission code is present. The TCM basically signals the PCM to turn the check engine light on to indicate an issue.

What you need is a scan tool that can read codes specifically from the transmission. I would recommend scanning the can-bus.

CAN stands for controller area network. This type of scan will retrieve codes regardless of the module storing them.

Here is a link showing how it's done:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/can-scan-controller-area-network-easy

I'm not sure if the scan tool you are using is able to perform this, but at this point, I feel it needs to be done.

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe

That is my next step and no, my scan tool will not do that. So, I'm headed to the transmission shop and see what they come up with. BTW I changed transmission filter and some fluid it didn't fix problem and it didn't create any either. thanks
