oil leak and smoke

Massive oil leak and lots of oil smoke from under hood. Used cylinder head installed at 93,000 miles. Cylinder three spark plug is oiled up. Thanks.

check compression first then remove valve cover and see if valve seal is broken otherwise you will have to get a small camera in cylinder and see if you can find evidence of a broken ring.

How do I check valve seal. I am getting oil on that plug. If its a ring I will either drive until it dies or put a junk engine in.

I also did not say that I could not get proper torque on the last two nuts on the posts of the exhaust manifold. It started with an exhaust leak and sort of evolved.

the bolts probably stretched or are stripped out so check for that. you will have to look inside valve spring or take the spring off after putting air in cylinder to check seal.

So basically I have to rebuild the top of the motor again. That's no fun. Is there a cheat like an additive. Lucas etc.?

no oil additive works to stop oil burning in my experience. besides you said you had a massive leak so check oil pressure sender may be there. if you do a compression check like I said in first reply that can tell a lot of things then adding air to the cylinder through spark plug hole can tell if leakage into crank case or valves.

I pressure tested a radiator on this truck. It went the next day. I've never pressure tested a motor. Can it be the valve cover? I'm losing coolant to.

I never got the farthest stud and nut on the exhaust manifold. Could all that hot exhaust warp the gasket?

it can if the nuts aren't tight, It kind of sounds like you have a head gasket problem to me from your description, the head bolts are supposed to be replaced when a new gasket is put in. Is the head bolts what you are talking about not tightening and not the exhaust manifold bolts? You may have stripped the holes as the head is aluminum and bolts are steel.

No I couldn't reach the 2 near the firewall well. 1 is gone. No room when I put an old cylinder head on.
