01 alero has battery light on

That has a internal voltage regulator do you have a multi meter to do some attesting?

With the key in the run position engine off the big red wire at the alternator should have battery voltage. the orange wire at the alternator should have battery voltage.Aso the other red wire should have battery voltage at the alternator.

I'm ahead a little bit I found the problem. I did a voltage drop test between the batt and alt and had like 10v Then I check resistance between batt and alt and it was all most infinite.
put jumper at batt and Alt and then checked battery voltage it was at 14.5 running and the battery light was also off on the dash.

I have one question left should I dig up the red battery cable, Or can I add a cable between the batt and Alt without causeing a potential fire.

Is the main red Alternator wire fused at all. Or is it just solid and hot?

I think I helped you before possibly with a Saturn?The main large red wire comes off the starter solenoid with a fuse able link off of it.I posted a wire diagram so you can see it for yourself.i would trace the wire back and see if you can save the fuse link and run a new piece of positive battery cable.

I think I am going to fuse the circuit between the battery and the alternator.

Is there any way to find out how many amps the fuse able link is, or would the parts stores know, Thanks!

The problem started when the subwoofer cable hit the exhaust pipe and melted through.

The fuse links are rated in gauges not amps I don't know the conversion for them.If it were my car I would stick with the fuse link.
